Aaron Lemon-Strauss

Chief Digital and AI Officer

Aaron Lemon-Strauss is Chief Digital and AI Officer at Recoding America, where he works to help government adopt modern product development practices and harness AI to deliver better outcomes.

Aaron has spent 20 years building digital products at the intersection of technology, education, and public service. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of the FAFSA Program at the U.S. Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid, where he led the team responsible for rebuilding and modernizing one of the federal government’s largest public-facing digital services. Under his leadership, the FAFSA moved to a modern product operating model, with continuous delivery, ongoing testing with students and families, and real-time financial aid eligibility results.

Earlier, at the College Board, Aaron led the development of Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy, the world’s most widely used SAT practice resource, which just happens to be free. He also helped build BigFuture into a leading destination for students exploring college and career options.

At Recoding America, he is focused on scaling those lessons—helping governments build the product, engineering, and AI capabilities to learn faster and deliver services that work, while growing the capacity of the broader field to make those practices the norm rather than the exception.
